Learning Resource Centre

The LRC is your school library, a modern facility which was fully refurbished in 2015. It is staffed by Mrs McCabe, the School Librarian and Mr Bullimore, Assistant Librarian.

LRC facilities include a fully stocked library, quiet areas to sit and read, a suite of 32 computers for students to use for completing homework and research. Before school, break time and lunchtime are busy times for these activities, and the LRC stays open after school for quiet study.

Well-established and successful paired reading and handwriting clubs take place in the LRC. There are also Reading challenges linked to the Accelerated Reading Scheme, and other awards for good work, such as writing book reviews. The LRC also hosts Visiting Author Workshops, Drop Everything and Read Events and Book Selling Promotions.

The opening times are 8am-5pm Monday to Thursday, and 8am-4.30pm Fridays.

All students receive a library card which entitles them to borrow 5 books from an extensive range of fiction and non-fiction. We hold a wide of study guides for GCSE subjects being taught at Icknield.

Printing facilities are available for students in the LRC.

All Year 7 and 8 students also have an Accelerated Reader lesson in the LRC every two weeks.

Students can apply for the position of Library Monitor to help the LRC staff when they join the Icknield Community. Many Year 7 students are already enthusiastic and hard-working monitors.

All students become members of the LRC when they join Icknield High School and as such they consent to :-

  1. Choose resources, read or study in the LRC in a quiet and responsible manner;
  2. Refrain from eating and drinking whilst in the LRC;
  3. Never to take an item from the LRC without first having it date stamped at the library issue desk, and return it on time.
  4. Be completely responsible for each item taken out, making sure that it is not damaged in any way (late returns and damaged books will be charged for, currently fines are between 10p-50p).

Make sure your parents/carers tick the appropriate box on the Essential Details and Permissions Form when you join Icknield.
